CBT in the Community

Published: May 6 2016

Cbt in the community At CBT we are always trying to find ways to be involved in our local community, and we are extremely thankful for our partnerships with some great associations that allow us to do so.  2016 marks the second year in a row that a child of a CBT employee has won the NIBA (The Belting Association) Scholarship.  Winners must have an extensive community/school service history, a personal history of leadership in family/school/work, and must submit an essay covering the importance of community service.  Jared Sherrick, son of CBT account manager Ron Sherrick, was selected for the prestigious award this year.

When asked what his greatest accomplishments were, Jared responded:

“I believe my greatest academic achievements include being a recipient of the Rensselaer Mathematics award, the Honda-OSU Mathematics award and medal, and being named the valedictorian of the 2016 graduating class of Troy High School. Outside of school, I am most proud of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America. I am also involved in Marching Band, National Honors Society, Math Club, Reading Buddies, Pen Pals, and I was previously involved in football for 2 years.”

Because the winners are so carefully chosen, we asked Jared what he thinks made him stand apart from other candidates:

“I think my status as an Eagle Scout singled me out as a dedicated, hardworking, and unique candidate for the scholarship. Eagle Scouts comprise a very exclusive, very prestigious group in the United States as well as around the globe. Eagle Scouts represent the very best in character and citizenship, and always strive to make the world a better place.”

After receiving such distinguished accolades, we were excited to hear what Jared’s plans were for the future:

“This fall, I plan to attend The Ohio State University, with a major in aerospace engineering. I hope to conduct undergraduate and maybe even graduate research at the university, with the hopes that one day I might work for SpaceX or NASA. I dream of designing satellites that will provide cheap Internet access and educational tools to underdeveloped nations across the globe.”

We are so proud of all the hard work and dedication Jared has put in over years, and look forward to seeing him succeed in the future!   cbt in the community Stephanie Knechtly, daughter of CBT Systems Administrator Steve Knechtly, was chosen for the NIBA Scholarship in 2015.  Since being awarded the presidential scholarship, Stephanie has just wrapped up her first year of interior design and architecture program at DAAP (University of Cincinnati’s School of Design Architecture Art and Planning).  Stephanie and classmates worked on many projects where they designed and redesigned models, enabling her to be consistently challenged while having fun learning the foundations of design and architecture.  The final project (pictured) was done as a team and started as an 8-inch cube and then after several modifications, was constructed into an 8-foot cube for all UC students to enjoy for a week.  Next year Stephanie is looking forward to her first co-op, where she will get to work with experienced professionals at a firm. Congratulations to these young individuals who have put in a great amount of time and effort to further their education and improve their communities!  For more information on the NIBA scholarship click here.
