Machine Guarding Made Easy   In 2014, machine guarding was the sixth-most cited serious OSHA violation, with more than 2200 citations issued. Safeguards are essential for protecting workers from preventable injuries. When the operation of a machine or accidental contact injure the operator or others in the vicinity, the hazards must be eliminated or controlled.

One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. – 29 CFR 1910.212
